ZANI – Dig The New Breed

Birds Vs. Planes

For an Indie band to stay clear of the only fit for landfill tag from me they have to meet certain criteria.  BirdsvPlanes have that energy that grabs you and sucks you in.  They are angry, reminding me of all that was good about new wave once it broke free of novelty acts think X-Ray Specs with attitude meets New York grunge.  This five piece from Cumbria will reverb your living room.
 
KGB Slideshow

I am on a new wave tip this week which seems the perfect time to introduce you to KGB Slideshow.  Only formed earlier this year they have already made waves with me.  Having won Alan McGee curated battle of the bands in Ross-on-Wye they just have it.  When you listen to as much new music as I do you just know these things.  Whatever they put in their coffee I want some!!!  It's raw simplistic guitar driven rock with Beti Scot hardly drawing breath, my one wish is that they never become industry polished.

Sometimes I am just blown away by a band such is the case with RedManRed who are my band of the week this week for Zani.  They manage to retain a true Indie feel amongst undoubted pop sensibilities never an easy task. Hailing from Brighton and fronted by Madelelina Poncia who delivers a great vocal. They could fall into the indie pop bracket equally, they have that panache that sets them above many bands of the same ilk.  Sometimes I just get a feel about a band, and the melodic hooks on show here are the kind that stay lodged in your brain.  Backing bands like this is what I love about writing and matters much more to me than the next industry hype.
