Ian Curtis – Remembered Thirty Two Years On

Written by Collective

In two albums and five singles Ian Curtis managed to bring us all into his world. I was about twenty when he died I loved Joy Division as did Bobby Gillespie. But could have Ian Curtis have lived with the massive success that was coming his way, if he hadn’t had committed suicide, who knows ?  But Dead Souls, Isolation and Decades best describe the world that Ian inhabited.

In addition, he also summed up the seminal Factory Records in many ways, somehow Creation Records managed to do this without anybody dying. Factory Records had a death in their history and Ian Curtis was their biggest star really and still is. Off the top of my head, I think there have been now four films about Ian Curtis and Factory Records that says it all.

Nick Drake - And Now We Rise

Written by Simon Wells
nick drake simon bond zani 11 2.

One morning late in 1974, twenty-six year old singer-songwriter Nick Drake failed to stir. His mother was the first to find him, upstairs in the bedroom of their home in the chocolate-box environs of rural Warwickshire. On his bed Nick lay motionless; his troubled features finally at peace. The depression that had wracked his brain with demons for the last few years had finally claimed him, aided by an overdose of tranquillisers. There was no suicide note.

Sound Of The Outsiders –Detroit Techno and Chicago House

Written by Alan McGee

Back in the 80s, I picked up every house and techno record I could find. Why? The early Detroit techno and Chicago house scenes were like reliving the punk rock year zero again.
