Alan McGee on 359 music

Alan McGee ZANI 1

It’s been a busy 6 months and there have been many revelations, Where to start? I have started a label called 359 Music with my old friend Iain McNay from Cherry Red. Iain has been around since the start; he signed my songs as a publisher 33 years ago. There had been talk of my new label for a while and I had the option of running 1123 Records for Warner’s Japan but when it came down to it owning half of the company is a lot more sexy than a 6 figure salary and no shares,

Ian Curtis – Remembered Thirty Two Years On

/ian curtis matteo sedazzari zani 1

In two albums and five singles Ian Curtis managed to bring us all into his world. I was about twenty when he died I loved Joy Division as did Bobby Gillespie. But could have Ian Curtis have lived with the massive success that was coming his way, if he hadn’t had committed suicide, who knows ?  But Dead Souls, Isolation and Decades best describe the world that Ian inhabited.

In addition, he also summed up the seminal Factory Records in many ways, somehow Creation Records managed to do this without anybody dying. Factory Records had a death in their history and Ian Curtis was their biggest star really and still is. Off the top of my head, I think there have been now four films about Ian Curtis and Factory Records that says it all.

A Tribute to our Top Bird

Antonia Bird 1

©Words - Dean Cavanagh

Antonia Bird the wonderful human being and film & TV director passed away recently at the age of 54. I was blessed to have known and worked with her and she made a big and lasting impact on my life. It was 1999 I had recently adapted Irvine Welsh’s “Filth” into a screenplay for HAL ( a subsidiary of Indie film giant Miramax ) and Irvine graciously asked me to meet Antonia with a view to getting involved in an adaptation of a true story. Irvine had recently joined Antonia, Mark Cousins and Robert Carlyle in forming a production company called 4-Way.

Good Arrows Irvine Welsh's TV Directorial Debut

Good friends of ZANI, Irvine Welsh & Dean Cavanagh are about to start filming Good Arrows, the first film from their production company Jawbone. Irvine Welsh has been a busy lad lately: his new novel Crime has hit the shelves running and he's about to start work on a prequel to Trainspotting set in the early 1980's. Good Arrows sees Cavanagh and Welsh collaborating again after having made the BAFTA nominated Dose for BBC3 and the critically acclaimed Wedding Belles for CHANNEL 4. Wedding Belles caused quite a stir after the News Of The World called for it to be banned. ZANI want to know if we can expect any controversy from Good Arrows?

About Us

ZANI was conceived in late 2008 and the fan base gradually grew by word of mouth. Key contributors came from those of the music, film and fashion industry and the voice of ZANI grew louder. So, when in 2013 investor, contributor and fan of ZANI Alan McGee* offered his support to help restyle and relaunch the site it was inevitable that traffic would increase dramatically and continues to grow. *Alan McGee co-founder of Creation Records and new label 359 Music..
