“Keep On Keeping On’ Ep was released by The Truth to mark 30 years since their last new music, but it is far more than that. The Ep is made up of four tracks, two re-releases and two originals, connecting their 80s past with a renewed creative spark.

To release new music for the first time in three decades is a brave decision. Not only because musical trends have changed, but your adoring fans may not approve of your new sound. You have to respect a band that is whiling to try something new so late in their career.

Let’s start with those re-released tracks. ‘Confusion Hit’s Us Everytime’ was the band’s first hit back in 1983 and is quite the tune. The track is the same charming song from the 80s but with cleaner guitar and drums, giving the song greater musical depth. ‘A Step In The Right Direction’ is another classic “Truth” track from the 80s mod scene and has a classic mod sound to it too. Again, the instrumentals are a lot clearer than the original helping to create a richer sound. One might go as far as to say there are some Indie elements in the vocal lines but really, if you enjoy your mod classics then this is a must listen to the track.

The title track ‘Keep On Keeping On’ is full of wistful guitar and melancholy vocals, very much in keeping with the bands’ style. It comes with a catchy and upbeat chorus, full of hope and optimism. The whole feeling of the song paints an image of a sepia tone, 80s London street, full of rebellious youth out to have a good time. If this song was released in the 80s, no doubt, it would have been a hit. Finally, ‘Life Through a Glass’ is a simple yet elegant track mostly composed of strumming guitars and soft vocals. There are definite Oasis vibes in this song, it surely would sound amazing next to an open campfire, although it sounds great out of my earphones too. Both these new songs are well constructed and stay true to the values that made The Truth, such a loved band.

Overall, this project is extremely impressive for a band that has not released anything new for such a long time. Their sound has stayed firm and true over the years and it is clear that the rebellious mod attitude, has pushed The Truth to add to their legacy. A job is well done for one of Britain’s classic musical collectives.”
